Black Lagoon

Chris was looking for help to update his Squarespace site after his original website designer was no longer available for work.

His original site had the main navigation links as buttons down the site within the main landing page, and even though it was designed just a few years ago, it had a dated look and was not user-friendly.

The scope of the project was to revamp the site so that it was more modern-looking, less ‘wordy’ and ensure that basic SEO was implemented as the company looked to make more use of their website as a marketing tool. As with pond and lake management, it wasn’t until investigating underneath the surface that the true scale of the project comes to light….

The original designer didn’t really know how to use Squarespace and there was a lot of coding that wasn’t necessary. With over 120 pages and 60+ products, it was decided that the best option would be to use a Cover Page for visitors to land on. This allowed Hot Lizard Designs to update pages and layouts quickly without affecting the user experience during the design process.

Example of Cover Page:

The landing page was divided into banner images to promote the different services that Black Lagoon offers, and where possible, text was either condensed, or moved to a blog post if it wasn’t immediately relevant. Due to the size of the site, instead of having multiple clicks to reach a page with an image / video with a little bit of text, these pages were featured within a grid display, with pop-up windows to display the video or additional information.

The site redesign took just over a week, and then went live within a few days after fine-tuning the site based on feedback from Chris and the team.

Fantastic to work with!!
