Background:
McGrath Benchtops are acrylic solid surface fabricators for residential and commercial projects based in Mosgiel, New Zealand. Their original website was a templated starter site that came free with their domain name host provider. As their business grew, they needed a more professional website to showcase projects and expertise. We had the pleasure of designing a clean, modern Squarespace site that reflected their needs.
Fast forward three years to 2024 and McGrath Benchtops had gone through a rebrand. Their business had evolved and they were taking on larger commercial contracts as well as residential customers. The website needed to match their target audience.
The Design Process:
As part of the rebrand we suggested taking advantage of the updated design features in Squarespace to give their website a more premium feel, upgrading their 7.0 site to the latest Fluid Engine version.
We changed the gradient gold to a flatter gold for a cleaner look, added individual product pages to display the colour range available (and keep visitors on their site for longer), and added an ‘Upload File’ option to their contact form.
The result is a more streamlined look even with the additional pages. Small design touches take the site to the next level.
Timeline:
1 week for the rebrand and additional pages once all content was supplied.
Design Touches
Used Squarespace’s in-built features to have different coloured tiles slide over each other as the visitor scrolls down the page. This was used for each product page.
A little bit of custom code was added to the gallery so the colour of each tile was clearly displayed when the visitor clicked to enlarge the image.
Full-width Banner Images
Use of full-width banner images to show off benchtops in-situ. These were used for page headers and section dividers to give the website visitor instant visuals on what can be achieved with acrylic solid surface materials.
Contact Form with File Upload
To streamline emails going back and forth to request a quote, a templated ‘Quick Quote Form’ download is made available for customers, as well as the option to upload images, plans or rough sketches to get a quote.
Embedded Video
A quick demonstration video was embedded on a continuous loop - muted to ensure best practice and a better user experience.
