McGrath Benchtops: A Redesign for Business Growth
McGrath Benchtops is a New Zealand-based fabricator of acrylic solid surface benchtops for both residential and commercial projects. When we first worked together, their website was a simple, templated starter site from their domain provider - functional but not reflective of their growing reputation or quality of work.
Hot Lizard Designs stepped in to create a modern, professional Squarespace website that showcased their stunning benchtop projects with a clean design and easy navigation.
Fast forward to 2024, and McGrath Benchtops had rebranded. Their projects had scaled up, including large commercial contracts, and their website needed to evolve to suit this more premium audience.
As part of the rebrand, we upgraded their site from Squarespace 7.0 to the newer Fluid Engine for greater design flexibility and performance. The visual tone was refined—replacing the original gold gradient with a flatter, more elegant tone, and using full-width banner images to highlight benchtops in real homes and commercial spaces.
To enhance the user experience, we added:
Individual product pages for colour ranges
A custom file upload option on the contact form
An embedded, muted demo video loop
A downloadable Quick Quote Form
Interactive tile overlays and colour displays in galleries
All content was turned around within one week once supplied—proof that a beautiful and functional rebrand doesn’t need to take months.
Today, McGrath Benchtops has a stylish, streamlined website that works as hard as they do—built to grow alongside their business.
Design Touches
Used Squarespace’s in-built features to have different coloured tiles slide over each other as the visitor scrolls down the page. This was used for each product page.
A little bit of custom code was added to the gallery so the colour of each tile was clearly displayed when the visitor clicked to enlarge the image.
Full-width Banner Images
Use of full-width banner images to show off benchtops in-situ. These were used for page headers and section dividers to give the website visitor instant visuals on what can be achieved with acrylic solid surface materials.
Contact Form with File Upload
To streamline emails going back and forth to request a quote, a templated ‘Quick Quote Form’ download is made available for customers, as well as the option to upload images, plans or rough sketches to get a quote.
Embedded Video
A quick demonstration video was embedded on a continuous loop - muted to ensure best practice and a better user experience.
