UK-based online training provider offering accredited qualifications in teacher training and assessing
Background:
MKLC Training needed a modern, clean looking, mobile-responsive website that would attract existing and potential students.
The original website was limited in terms of functionality, difficult to update quickly, had a black background with different colour headings and page layouts as new items had been added over the years by different members of the IT team.
MKLC Training wanted a clean, modern, light design, with an added online enrolment and payment system to help streamline some administration tasks.
The Design Process:
Hot Lizard Designs was given creative freedom with the redesign. A draft of the home page was completed within a couple of days to show the owner what could be achieved before designing the rest of the site.
The tagline ‘Education is a journey, and it STARTS WITH YOU’ was visualised as a series of travel / adventure images, with the pink from the MKLC logo used as the accent colour throughout the website. An independent review software was also added to the site to help establish online trust before students enrol online.
Four years later, in 2019, MKLC Training wanted to update their website. This included refining the display of the current online courses, adding new courses and a custom filter for their Action Research projects, and integrating a chat feature during business hours. Part of the update was to move away from the ‘adventure’ and use a more abstract image that featured the company’s brand colours.
Timeline:
On-going - MKLC Training use Hot Lizard Designs for course updates, new page layouts and any ad-hoc design work. We have also created PDF course brochures that mimic the look and feel of the website.
Mega Menu Dropdown for Courses
As the number of courses increased over the years, it wasn’t feasible to have an extended dropdown menu.
A Mega Menu allows all of the courses to be displayed on desktop view, with a separate mobile menu display.
Action Research and Custom Filter
As part of the DET qualification, students must submit an Action Research project in their area of expertise / interest. These are interesting, in-depth research with evaluations and are published on the website with the student’s permission.
As there are over 120 projects, a custom filter has been applied to allow visitors to filter according to category and tags, or even search by author name.
We are now looking at creating a podcast using these projects to bring them to a wider audience.
Online Enrolments and Payments
All available courses are set up on the website and allow students to enrol and pay online. A custom intake / enrolment form along with SSL certificate and secure encryption means online purchase details are secure. Both MKLC Training and the student receive email confirmation, and the company then issues a paid invoice.
The AET course has various dates available - these are displayed in button format to make selection easier with a hover effect.
The company has also used the in-built discount codes and sale price features.
Custom Icons and Stock Images
Rather than using a standard stock image of a student, an abstract image that featured the black and pink of the company logo colours was sourced. This gives the site a more fluid appearance without looking washed out.
Custom icons allow visitors to instantly scan and recognise the benefits of learning with MKLC Training.
