Squarespace Website Migration
Your platform may need to change.
What you’ve built shouldn’t be lost in the move.
You’ve built valuable content. Earned search visibility. Created a website people already know.
But the platform behind it? It may be difficult to manage, reliant on constant updates or no longer giving you the flexibility you need.
A successful website migration isn’t simply about moving content. It’s about protecting what already works, improving what doesn’t and giving your business a stronger platform for what comes next.
From the initial website audit through to the final changeover, you’ll work directly with the person rebuilding and launching your site - ensuring nothing important is overlooked along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes. Your new Squarespace 7.1 website will be built privately while your existing site remains online. The domain will only be connected to the new site after you have reviewed and approved it, keeping disruption to a minimum.
-
Some temporary fluctuation is possible whenever a website changes platform, structure or content. To reduce that risk, existing URLs and SEO settings will be reviewed, valuable page addresses retained where possible, and 301 redirects added wherever URLs need to change. Page titles, descriptions and other essential SEO settings will also be checked before launch.
No designer can guarantee that rankings will remain exactly the same, but careful migration planning helps protect the search visibility you have already built.
-
Not necessarily. Existing URLs will be retained wherever they still make sense and can be recreated in Squarespace. If a URL must change because of the new structure or platform, a permanent 301 redirect will be added so visitors and search engines are sent to the correct new page.
-
Pages, written content, images, downloadable files and blog posts can usually be migrated. Stores, memberships, forms, comments, databases and platform-specific functionality require individual review because they may not transfer directly.
Before work begins, you will receive a clear scope confirming what will be migrated, rebuilt, updated or excluded. Larger blogs, product catalogues and content libraries may require an additional fee.
-
It can retain your existing branding and the strongest parts of the current site, but the aim is not usually to reproduce an outdated website pixel for pixel. The migration is an opportunity to improve the structure, presentation, mobile experience and usability while preserving the content and features that still serve your business.
Any functionality that cannot be recreated directly in Squarespace will be discussed before the project is quoted.
-
Existing custom code, forms, booking systems and third-party integrations will be reviewed before the migration begins. Where possible, they will be recreated using current Squarespace features or compatible integrations.
If something cannot be transferred or requires a different solution, the available options and any additional cost will be explained before work starts.
-
You will generally need to provide:
access to your current website
access to your domain or DNS settings when the new site is ready
your logo and current brand assets
details of any forms, booking systems or integrations
any content changes or new information you want included
feedback during the agreed review stages
You will be guided through what is needed and how to provide access securely.
-
Most straightforward small-business migrations are completed within approximately two weeks once the required access and content have been supplied. Larger websites, extensive blogs, online stores and complex integrations will take longer.
Your confirmed scope will include a clear project timeline before work begins.
Move forward without starting again.
Changing platforms can feel like risking everything your website has already built. With the right planning, it can be an opportunity to protect that value and create something better.
If your current platform has become difficult to manage or no longer supports where your business is heading, it may be time to make the move.
The first step is a relaxed, no-pressure conversation about your existing website, what needs to be protected and what moving forward would involve.
