Background:
A cutting edge AI and machine learning consultancy service based in New Zealand. The company wanted a new, fresh, modern looking website that clearly showed visitors what Kowhai could do, along with clear call to actions throughout the site.
The Design Process:
HLD were provided with the company logo, page titles, and copy for each page.
We created a colour theme based on the supplied logo designs, and added a distinctive creative touch with interactive particles on the home page (which both we and the client love!). Animations were also added to each page header to continue the theme, and the use of yellow to make information sections and call-to-action buttons ‘pop’.
We also suggested and implemented the online booking software Acuity Scheduling as a more streamlined (and better looking!) option than the basic embedded Zoho form.
Timeline:
Two weeks from start to launch, including fine-tuning the design and arranging an online tutorial so the team at Kowhai would feel confident making content changes moving forward.
Custom Coding
A little bit of custom coding can make a huge difference in the final display of your website.
For Kowhai we applied this to the main navigation menu and content blocks to maintain a modern, clean design to fit their industry.
Interactive Particles
Kowhai’s homepage features a custom-coded particle effect designed by Hot Lizard Designs. These interactive particles respond to cursor movement - gently expanding and fading as users navigate the screen.
It’s a subtle yet engaging visual element that adds personality and depth without relying on stock imagery.
This feature was tailored specifically for Kowhai to complement their brand aesthetic, showcasing how thoughtful design and a bit of clever coding can bring a homepage to life.
Custom Icons
Enhancing the visual appeal and readability of content can be achieved through thoughtful design choices.
In Kowhai’s case, custom icons against a yellow background effectively highlights each AI case in a visually striking way, drawing attention to each feature rather than a quick scan of text.
