Kati McKeon, founder of Perth-based website design business Hot Lizard Designs, was elected to the Wanneroo Business Association (WBA) Board at its Annual General Meeting on 16 September 2020.
The appointment recognised an opportunity to contribute more than 25 years of experience across business management, marketing and education to an organisation supporting businesses throughout Perth's northern suburbs.
Supporting Perth's Local Business Community
The Wanneroo Business Association provides networking opportunities, professional development, educational events and support for local businesses.
Having joined the WBA in 2019, I quickly discovered the value of connecting with other business owners who openly share their knowledge, experience and challenges.
Being elected to the Board was an opportunity to give something back to a business community that had already provided so much support.
Bringing Business Experience to the Board
My professional background extends well beyond website design. With an MBA, international business experience and a career spanning management, marketing and education, I've had the opportunity to work with businesses and organisations across different sectors and countries.
Growing up in a family business also taught me the importance of integrity, resilience, adaptability and finding practical solutions when circumstances change.
These experiences continue to shape my approach at Hot Lizard Designs, where effective website design starts with understanding the business behind the website: its customers, challenges and objectives.
I was looking forward to bringing that same practical perspective to the WBA Board and working alongside other members to support the local business community.
Recognition and Community Involvement
The 2020 AGM saw Kati McKeon elected alongside other local business representatives following a ballot of association members.
The appointment was officially announced by the Wanneroo Business Association in its published AGM report.
About Kati McKeon
Kati is the founder and lead designer of Hot Lizard Designs, an independent Squarespace website design business established in 2014. Based in Perth, Western Australia, she works with businesses and organisations in Australia and internationally, combining web design expertise with an extensive background in business management.
The Wanneroo Business Association (WBA) is an active community of over 430 businesses, offering free networking, educational events and business support services to the Northern Suburbs of Perth.
It was an honour to be nominated to represent this fantastic association, and then elected as a Board Member at the WBA AGM held on the 16th September 2020. There were quite a few nominations from qualified and experienced members, and this speaks volumes for the high regard in which the association is held.
“I have over 25 years’ experience in business management, marketing, and education. I’ve been incredibly lucky to have lived in five different countries, and had the opportunity to work with, and learn from, some amazing people.
Growing up within a family business has instilled the values of hard work, integrity, resilience, and the need to be flexible and creative when things don’t always go to plan – whether that is due to internal or external factors. These values and skills have proved extremely useful throughout my career, regardless of the industry and position.
As a website designer I work with clients worldwide, ranging from individuals starting up their business, to non-profit organisations needing to improve their online presence before applying for UN funding. Understanding what they do, and what they need to achieve, translates into a successful website design, and I look forward to bringing that experience and insight to the WBA Board.
I joined the WBA in 2019 and instantly felt that I had found my ‘tribe’ with like-minded professionals building genuine connections. The supportive network, informative workshops and friendly coffee catch-ups have been invaluable, and are top of the list when I recommend the WBA to others.
As a Board Member, I am excited to be working with a great team in such a dynamic business association. I am looking forward to getting to know more WBA members as we continue to grow our business community and look to expand our offerings based on the needs of our members.”
