Squarespace and Weglot

Squarespace now has a multilingual integration - Weglot!

Previously, any translation on a website meant creating duplicate pages in the target language and coding to allow visitors to switch between versions. Now with the new Weglot integration, Squarespace website owners can enjoy a much smoother, faster experience.

Key Features

A fully translated Squarespace site: Weglot automatically detects and translates all of your website content, including pages, blog posts, menus, and ecommerce products and your checkout.

Simple translation management: Manage all your website translations through one interface. Combine automatic translation, human editing, and the option to order professional translations directly inside your Weglot Dashboard.

Multilingual SEO: Weglot follows Google SEO best practices with several automatically added multilingual SEO features. Including translated metadata, automatically added hreflang tags and language subdomains (see below) or subdirectories.

Design: Weglot adds a front-end language switcher to your site so your website visitors can select the language of their choice. Edit, move and customize it through the Squarespace website builder. Plus, use Weglot’s visual editor to preview your translated pages and plan for any design adjustments caused by translated text expansion.

Language subdomains

Language subdomains are language-specific URLs for your site. For example, if your site is https://yourmultilingualsite.com, the Spanish subdomain would be https://es.yourmultilingualsite.com.

If you try out Weglot and decide it's the right option for your multilingual site, we recommend setting up a language subdomain for each of your destination languages. This makes your site searchable in multiple languages, and offers a faster, fully-translated experience to your visitors.

While you can use Weglot without setting up a language subdomain, you may notice some content (like error messages or button animations) won't appear translated, and that visitors in other languages may experience a slight lag in translations loading when navigating between pages.

What Doesn’t Translate

When you connect Weglot, most of your website content is translated to your chosen destination languages.

The following features are not yet integrated with Weglot and can't be translated:

Trials and Paid Plans

Weglot offers a 10 day trial allowing you to translate a site of up to 10,000 words into one other language. Once your trial period is over, you can use Weglot’s free plan of up to 2,000 words into one other language, or sign up for a paid plan to allow more words or languages.
